Default Where to start?

I was walking though a mall earlier today shopping when I came across a store "The Toy Vault" when i noticed a big warhammer display in the window. I figured "why the hell not" so I whent inside and looked around. Since I don’t really know any thing about warhammer lore I though I would buy one just to see what’s inside.

I didn’t realize that it was just a model. I though it would come with some background information or instructions or something. Fortunately my dad likes to make model trains and cars so I got his tools, glue, and paint and tried to put it to gather. I got the Empire State Troops.

So my question is where can I find game instructions? And do you build the model and then paint then or do you paint them first. This is making feel like a total noob lol.

Maybe ill put up a picture of after im done its so bad lol

Well, these offical pages give a step by step guide.

This is the starter set mentioned.
This is the full rulebook mentioned.

However - since you are completely new to tabletop Warhammer - in your position I would play around with miniatures before making such a financial commitment.

Look through all the website army pages, and the online store miniature ranges.
Have a go assembling and painting miniatures.

Warhammer is both a hobby and a game - make sure you like the hobby aspects before you go investing in to the gaming !

I have a High Elf army that is just sitting waiting for me to paint it. I put the whole thing together and now I can't make myself start painting it! The funny thing is that I've done a lot of watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, but, sitting down and painting one at a time kinda irks me. On the other hand, I couldn't imagine putting up a single unit that I thought I had painted poorly.

I'm sure something will spur me on, but for now it's just sitting there staring at me. Honestly, I think I enjoy reading the books and the lore more than the actual table top play. However, there is not much as satisfying as owning someone with your army (in the realm of tabletop gaming anyway). I really should start painting...

You would be surprised how involved warhammer tabletop gaming can be. The passion you see for WAR is nothing compared to the passion tabletop gamers have for warhammer. Gamesdays we wait for announcement about WAR isn't this big Mythic and WAR conventions. They are primarily for the tabletop. Roars of WAAAAGH!! usually comes from the Orc fanboys!!!

Welcome to the world of tabletop gaming. May your hand be steady and your model blade stay sharp!!!

As Atera I was not that into Warhammer lore: before going on vacation I ordered some books on Amazon (the pretty much complete set of Gotrek & Felix adventures).

I was surprised about how much I enjoyed the story: it's well written and it's fun compared to some other book tie off (it's this the word ?) from games I read in the past.

Now I have a bit of a knowledge about the Empire, Order and the dwarven race in Warhammer.

It's a shame none of the books I've read so far mention Elves (well... besides Gotrek always saying he HATES elves...)

Defenders of Ulthuan & Glead's Blood. Both are High Elf novels. Gilead's Blood is a really old novel, so it might be really hard to find.

Giantslayer, one of the Gotrek & Felix novels has Teclis in it.

Thanks for the suggestion: I found Defenders of Ulthuan and ordered it together with the Prima WAR Guide.

Everything should arrive when I finish the second Gotrek & Felix Omnibus... and while already playing WAR.
