Hopefully this is worthy of the [GD] tag - I can always remove it if not.
Now that we have seen the guild, dye and armor systems in action, it seemed the ideal time to finally reach a decision.
Implementation
* Guild heraldry may be displayed on cloaks and is always displayed on banners.
* There is no feature to switch to a guild color scheme ( currently ).
* Dyes are unlocked for individual characters as they gain Renown Ranks.
* Dye costs scale from handfuls of copper to multiple gold, per area per item.
* Some item designs are not dyeable ( e.g. some Swordmaster helms can be dyed, some cannot ).
* Some item designs include components that are not affected by dye ( usually metal and border stitching from what I have seen ).
Options a] Aim For Uniformity
+ Look like an army.
+ Should go well with the cape and banner.
- A single scheme is unlikely to please everyone.
- Due to financial & Renown Rank pressures, limited to earliest colors ( blue, green , turquoise, pink / red, brown ).
- Reduces enjoyment gained by individuals earning the rarer colors, as their best set will always be guild colored.
- Armor pieces which cannot be ( fully ) dyed to match will stand out.
b] Pool Of Colors
+ A level of visual coherence.
+ Freedom to utilise rarer shades of select colors as earned.
- Even a pool of colors is not guaranteed to please everyone.
- Still reduces the enjoyment of earning rarer dyes outside the color pool.
- Armor pieces which cannot be ( fully ) dyed may still match stand out.
c] Freestyle
+ Everyone can suit their own tastes.
+ Everyone can enjoy the rewards of their financial & Renown success.
+ Colors can be tailored to suit fully or partially undyeable items.
- Won't look like an army.
- Lots of people won't be color coordinated with the cape.
A seperate issue would be whether or not pro Standard Bearers ( as opposed to temporary appointees ) should be asked to dye their armor to match their banner, or if that is unreasonable to ask ?
The final issue is whether EU & US chapters should reach a joint decision and even decide colors jointly, if both chapters should decide independently, or even if - in the case of a] and b] - both chapters should have different color schemes ?
~ O ~
I'd vote for c], but since I did so before we knew how the systems work that is no great surprise.
Though I voted c] ( making guild colors a non-issue ), if I
had to comment on the other topics I would say :
* b] Because it seems silly to unlock triple-figure dyes and be limited to the first few.
* Pro Standard Bearers should make a moderate effort to match their banner.
* I'd favor the guild as a whole deciding, since I cannot see how we'd divide colors other than one chapter taking red and the other blue.
